TINYDANCER JANE
About
Born and raised in Singapore, Jieying Nah, also known as Tinydancerjane, is a movement choreographer, dancer, producer, and facilitator of movement workshops. She is also the founder of Tinydancer Productions, a movement production company that aims to put more interdisciplinary work on different stages.
Jieying's journey in movement commenced early, as she delved into the realms of Chinese dance and artistic gymnastics. At age 13, she joined the inaugural cohort of the School of the Arts Singapore (SOTA), where she trained in the foundations of ballet and contemporary dance.
In 2015, Jieying's pursuit of excellence led her to the esteemed London Contemporary Dance School, fueled by the National Arts Council Arts Scholarship (Undergraduate). Under the tutelage of illustrious mentors such as Baptiste Bourgougnon, Chisato Ohno, Jennie Steele, Kate Price, Anna Helsby, Raymond Chai, Lelia Mcmillian and Pieter Symond, she honed her craft in ballet, contemporary, improvisation and more, culminating in the attainment of a BA (Hons) in Contemporary Dance with first-class honors. Her outstanding performance in school also earned her the prestigious Peggy Hawkins Scholarship.
Her post-graduate adventures saw her take the stages of London as a freelance dancer, collaborating with esteemed companies like Sisters Grimm and James Cousins Company. Not only so, her performances at Sadlers Wells Theatre, under Matsena Productions, underscored her talent and versatility.
Returning to her roots in Singapore, Jieying embarked on a new chapter with The Human Expression Dance Company in 2019, where she performed in creation works and repertoires alike, alongside visionary choreographers such as Kuik Swee Boon and Kim Jae Duk, Dimo Milev, Jos Baker, Albert Tiong and Anthea Seah.
Driven by a profound belief in the transformative power of movement, Jieying now charts her course as a freelance choreographer, weaving narratives that captivate hearts and minds. Her choreographic style, characterised by a fusion of physicality, whimsy, and relatability, serves as inspiration to dancers of all ages and backgrounds.
Jieying's journey continues to evolve, guided by an unwavering dedication to her craft and an unyielding desire to ignite change through the language of movement.
